Hi All - I have a squeak on my 1999 996 911 tip cab.

After about 20 mins of driving, an old bed srping type squeak starts from the front (driver side - RHS in the UK). It has been suggested that this is a coffin arm problem and I need to replace it. The noise vanishes at speeds of over 30 mph.

Having done lots of reaseach (on the net!) it seems like the noise can be a result of many things and I do not want to go back and keep changing things. I wanted to start with the most obvious to isolate the problem - lubricate different bits to see what the cause of the squeak is. I know this may not solve anything but it is a financially prudent way to start!

So...does anyone know (or have any pictures) of the areas I should start to grease? I plan on using a syringe to point and squirt.

Thanks in advance!

I know that on older 911s the ball joints could start to squeak. You would hear it when turning the wheel with the car on the ground and or at low speeds on uneven roads. The "fix" was to use a syringe to squirt a few CCs of ATF into the ball joint. This worked for my 1970. I am not sure if the new 911s are the same??

It is usually the coffin bush that squeaks as it wears but mine turned out to be worn anti-roll bar bushes. These are cheap and easy to replace.
