After bringing my Boxster 2005 for service 30K (kilometers) they noticed some oil under the engine. They advised me to change the sealing however this is an expensive repair. I cannot find any oil in my parking nor seen the level drop. So is it really needed to have this job done??

Please some advise.

It's probably your cam covers. In order to re-seal them you have to have a special Porsche tool to hold the cams when the cover is removed. Mechanics charge a lot for this. It's not going to hurt anything by not doing the repair right away. Mechanics and dealers like to call it "sweating" of oil.

I can only speak from my experience on my 996...Mine were leaking and I bought the sealant. On the advice of RFM (a moderator on this site) I took out the bolts one -by-one and resealed them without removing the cover. It stopped the leaking... I don't know how hard this DIY would be on a Boxster... It's pretty easy on a 996..

Has anyone tried this or is it even possible on the 987 to reseal the bolts? Mine is not bad. However, I took it to two dealers. One was going to charge me $2,400.00 the other was $1,000.00 or $1,100.00 with an oil change. I really dont want to spend the money right now since it only leaks after sitting a few days and it does not sit very often!!
