Instrument Cluster lamps all remain on with Ignition Key turned off

I had my 2003 986 stored for 45 days. When I returned the battery was dead. A check of the 4 year old battery indicated a new battery was a good idea. I replaced the battery and now when I turn off the ignition all of the instrument panel lights remain on. Before the car was stored I had no problems. I have to remove the fuse to get them to go off and if I replace the fuse they all come back on. I would try and do some troubleshooting of the problem except I cannot find a wiring diagram for a 2003 986. Anyone know of a source of wiring diagrams? I tried the Bently manual and it does not cover the 2003. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch to me.

This is normal on my 1997. Cluster lights stay on for a while after your remove the iginition key. Then go out. Maybe you did not notice this before the battery problem.

My dash lights stay on for a while as well on my '02 S.

If you push in on either re-set button at the side of the tachometer, the digital instrument lights will illuminate. You might check to see if either button is stuck in....carefully. If you break a shaft, you'll find that there is no "official" replacement part available. A RennTech board member is a source of new shafts (satisfied customer here) or an old instrument cluster will have to be dissambled for the shsft.

BTW, per the Owner's Manual, the digital instrument lights will remain illuminated for 4 minutes after you leave the car.

But should go out immediately after locking the doors with the remote control.

986 2003 Euro version.

A defective combi instrument is not excluded.

this was the exact same thing that happened to me. when i installed the aluminum trim to my gauges i must of jammed the dimmer switch.

anyway, a battery, ignition switch, and 400$(my mechanic figured this out) was what cost me to figure this out. unfortunately i did not see this post.

so hopefully others will learn from this :)
