01 996TT Amplifier Wiring - Need Help

I have a 01 996TT with navigation (not Bose) and I am replaceing the head unit with a Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT. I am trying to use the factory amp (Harman AES 6x40W DSP Verstarker 996.645.322.01) and I can't get it to work. I have metered each line on the input to the amp with the old radio and the new. The only difference that I see in any single is on the DSP data line. With the old radio I see some kind of bursty data which seems fairly radom. With the new radio I see what looks like periodic RS232 type data at a pretty slow rate compared to when its working.

Has anyone gotten an aftermarket radio working with the factory amp?

From various schematics and other post here is what I am seeing on the input connector to the amp.

1 DSP ground

2 RR ground

3 RL ground

4 FR ground

5 FL ground

6 no contact

7 +12 switched

8 no contact

9 no contact

10 RR signal

11 RL signal

12 FR signal

13 FL signal

14 no contact

15 no contact

16 speed

17 DSP DATA

18 no contact

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can it be useful ? It is for audio option pack Harman amp.

That is pretty close to what I have on the 99-00 schematics. The DSP DATA wire is missing though.

Is this the amp you are using with an aftermarket head unit?

My amp also has on its label 996 Coupe M680 if that helps.

Use the turbo schematics - there are slight differences.

I should have said I have the turbo schematics but they are from 99-00 not 01 but from what I see they should look the same.

I have spent some more time on this today.

the DSP Data wire is not connected to anything with the new head unit. The wire goes to plug II on the old unit pin 14. So the data seems to be coming from the amp. There is a 8052 in the amp so it seems possible. Also a DSP chip.

My only guess is that the amp won't function unless it gets some kind of data from the old head unit but its only a guess.

I was hoping to find that someone had already had this got this working and knew what I needed to do.

Sorry, the 996TT did not come out until MY01. So there can't be schematics from 99-00.

Regardless the schematics that I have appear to be representative of what I am seeing in my vehicle.

I am still looking to see if anyone is using this amp with an aftermarket unit and if so how was it connected. At this point I am not sure it is possible.

If your car did not have DSP (M680) then that line will not be connected.

Thanks for the schematics. They are basically the same as I have but they are laid out a little better. I am getting to where I don't even need schematics any longer. I have them memorized.

I do not believe that I have the DSP option. I did some searching and this seems to be a EQ type device. There isn't room with the factory navigation. The input connector on the amp does have wires in pins 1 (DSP ground) and 17 (DSP data) but not 8 (DSP clock), 9 (DSP power) or 18 (DSP interrupt). The two which are there appear to go to plug II according to documentation which I found in another thread (I think posted by you). This seems to checkout based on my measurements.

At this point I don't know if this is the cause of my problems or not. It is simply the only signal that I can see that is different at the amplifier from the old unit to the new unit.
