I recently hit the biggest and I do mean the biggest pothole that I have ever seen. I managed to break 3 wheels and bend another. I also bent the rear subframe crossmember(I'm not sure what it is called). I have 18 X 8f and 18 X 10r sport classic 2's. The insurance company is telling me that they will give me $217 to replace each wheel. How am I supposed to explain to them that the sport classic 2 is a dealer only option and that it costs around $800 per wheel? And where can I find a parts list that shows an exploded view of the rear suspension( you know... that computer thing that the dealer won't give me)?

Thanks ahead for your replies

Bummer

"Dealer only option"...........not sure I get that.....do you have a dealer reciept or invoice for the car that lists them?........if so, I would think you could get your money. Insurance companies seldom know all the options & configs anyway......just 'correct' them.

If it's an aftermarket thing, that's different........only way to really have that covered is sep add-on coverage or a rider.

As suggested.......I'd look hard for other damage.....must have been quite a jolt.

The way I understand it after living in Boston which is pothole city, you can claim against the city for excessive damage done to your car as a result of neglegant road maintanace. Paying road tax entiitles you to it. I don't know how it works in SF but worth checking out. My friend in boston lost is front axel after a manhole cover went missing, the city paid for the damage.

Thanks everyone for your replies. The insurance company is sending a new adjuster down to my shop to take a second look. I live in Boston (You know the world series champion Red Sox City). The insurance company gave me some phone numbers to call where they said I could find the wheels and all of them said that those wheels were a "dealer option only"

Loren, the second page of the rear suspension view shows the cross member brace (#6) and that is what is bent. Is that something that could bend without other things bending?

IMHO no. I think you want a suspension expert to really look through the car for any other (hidden) damage. If that cross memember is damaged then you could have other damage including several cracked or nearly sheared bolts on other suspension components. I think at least a partial disassembly would be needed to ascertain the damage.

What a bummer! :( Don't forget to take pictures of everything you can including the pothole, damage, etc. You never know when you might need them!

Loren, thank you. I've requested that the car go to porsche for a full suspension check. Now the insurance company wants to pay Porsche $35 / hr for the work. That should be fun to deal with.

I went back to the pothole the next morning to take pics and the darn thing was already fixed. A state trooper hit the same hole(the construction company forgot to put a plate over it) and damaged his cruiser. The company has accepted responsibility so i hope I am okay.

The really terrible part is that I was on my way to the wheel shop and some moron rear ended me and put me in the hospital for 2 days. Needless to say I have to make another claim and then sell this bucket of bolts. I think I am going to get another 993 turbo.
