Hello to you all,

It's the first time I'm posting in this forum and I would really appreciate if I could have your precious opinion or/and your personal experiance to my problem. A few minutes ago I noticed some oil drops on my garage floor right at the back of my 997 S mk1 underneath the engine. I am aware of the regularity of the problem that occures unfortunately to many Porsche owners, so from time to time i was always checking for any oil marks on my garage floor. Tomorrow I intent to call my Porsche dealer and describe the situation. The most probable answer would be to pay a visit so that he checks the car. All Iwanted to know is how serious could this be? If it's an RMS leak what is the procedure to fix it? I have read some articles on the web that describe a very easy and straight forward procedure, but on the other hand I have read some really disapointing scenarios like the one that includes the opening of the engine (????????). I would really appreciate your opinion and I am terribly sorry if this subject was discussed before at some extend without me having read about it. I'll be waiting for your replies.

P.S. My car is an X51 with the powerkit installed.

If it is the RMS, all that is involved is removing the old seal and installing a new (improved) one.

However, the transmission and engine must be separated from each other in order to perform the procedure.

Thanks Maurice! I checked the car once again after I had wiped out previous oil drops and I saw nothing. 12 hours after my last check and nothing on the floor. If this was an RMS problem wouldn't it still be leaking?

You may want to do some hard driving and then

park the car. Take some pictures and post

them. The location of the drip makes a big difference.

The RMS seal is pulled out with a tool and pushed in

with a tool. The engine has to be dropped from the frame.

It takes about three hours to get the motor out. There is

alot of things that need to be removed before you

drop the motor.

Thank you for you assistance Paul. I took the car to dealer and checked it. There is no problem with the car! The gentleman that checked it noticed that there was some oil under the engine, but the strange thing is that there was no leak! In my opinion someone spilled some amount of oil during the oil change out of the hose and he cleaned only the filterbox.... It can't be explained otherwise. Well, finding out that there was no leak at all was a relief really.

georgie: I'd check your electronic oil level gauge just before you next start it up. If all the spaces are filled, including the very top one (it's about 1/4 the size of the others below it), it may be overfilled--not a good thing. Just make sure the car sits an hour or two with the motor off to allow all the internal oil passages to drain into the sump before you check it.

Thank you for that 355bhp, that was a good idea. I did check it and the oil level seems to be OK. I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days after some driving to see if everything is still alright.

Had the same issue, noticed the oil leak under the motor and this went a while. It wasn't pouring out oil just small drops that took a while to show. I park my car for long periods of time in my garage (one month periods) and everytime I would pull it out of the garage i would notice a few drops. Sent the car directly to the dealer out of fear of RMS problems but it turned out to be a faulty hose. One day later with the hose replaced and no more leakage...

Make sure your dealer checks all hoses in the engine to make sure everything is A OK.
