Those of you who have a fear of IMS Failure your fear is real. I have a 2004 Boxster Which just turned 40,000 and with no warning the engine Blew. I purchased an extended waranty from my Porsche dealer at the time my porsche warranty expired and thought this would take care of any problems. The car was flatbedded to the dealer and I was told that this would be taken care of , and that the Remanufactured engines from Porsche had all the updated components and my car would be better than new. I was told that this was a blesing as I planned to purchase the car in Three months when the lease was over. I was told that I would basicly have a new car. Well the Warranty company refused to pay Porsche for their remanufactured engine and said all they had to do is provide a replacement for my engine. The engine not coming from Porsche the dealer wouldn't except it. This went on for almost three weeks , and as I heared from others that this happened to, they said that even if the car was out of warranty from Porsche, because it was an on going problem, in some cases Porsche stepped in and helpped with the replacement. I really wanted their engine so that I could keep the car. Well with the dealer fighting back and forth with the warranty company, and getting no ware and Porshe not caring themselves even knowing of the frequency of this occurance, there was nothing that would be done. The President of the dealerships finally gave the repair department to replace the engine with one from the outside. At this point I am so fed up with what is going on and not sure that the used engine their putting in my car would be any better than the one that just blew, I have to get rid of my baby when the lease expires. This is a car that I thought was a keeper, and I would have forever. I have had so many different cars and never enjoyed ny as much as my boxster. I just don't feel that I can rely on it lasting anymore and can't go through with the aggrivation again, like i went through in getting the car fixed. By the way the rear engine seal also failed when I first got the car. Any body have advise as to what I should do please answer.

Have an attorney take at look at the express terms of the extended warranty to see if you have any recourse against the warranty company. Some of the aftermarket warranties are not worth the paper they are written on, while others (few and far between) can be helpful in some instances.

The most useful ammunition that you can get to make your case would come from the dealership, in the form of an affidavit from the service manager, stating that "it is their custom and practice, in cases of the type of engine failure that you have had, to replace the engine with a Porsche remanufactured engine".

Curious to know which warranty company is giving you this attitude.

Regards, Maurice.
