Last winter, the mudflaps / plastic fender skirts were mangled and ripped by various unavoidable snow/slush impacts.

They aren't all that expensive to replace($7-$22 each depending on the damage. ) I am wondering if I shouldn't just remove them when I put on my winter tires and reinstall them when the weather warms.

Does this sound like a reasonable form of prevention?

I believe [opinion] the winter season is when they are used more often; the very reason yours were mangled. Even though they are minimal, they do function. There is no form without function.

During the nicer parts of the year, they will see less use, then in winter.

My two cents.

Where can you get them for that price?

Regular dealer prices, parts only - less expensive than I expected.

$7 is for the little rubber lip - $22 for the plastic fender corner including the rubber lip. This is for the rear. Front ones don't seem to get damaged.

In my experience the front rubber lips are the ones that usually get mangled - usually because of scrapes on curbs, driveways or just dips in the road.

They're around $15 each from the dealer...
