retrofit PCM3 into 2009 Cayman

I am hoping to retrofit a PCM3 into our 2009 Cayman. The Cayman came with the base radio and base speakers (no Bose). I have located a PCM 3 from a 2009 Carrera that had Bose.

I think that the main difference between a PCM for Bose and for non-Bose is that the Bose interface is a digital optical link from PCM to Bose amplifier and the non-Bose is simply PCM to speakers via copper.

So logically, I am believing that a PCM which had a Bose interface could be utilized with speakers as well (and no Bose).

Comments, suggestions, ideas?

Im not sure if its the same with PCM 3.0 but on the PCM 2.1 the Bose PCM units couldn't be used with standard speakers as the unit didnt have an internal amp. If you had a standard PCM 2.1 you could connect it to a bose amp as it was a simple software confifuration. The best way to check , is to see if the Bose and non Bose PCM 3 units are identified by a different part number on PET (porsche parts list). If there are two part numbers listed for identical options but one with and one without bose I suggest its the same as the PCM 2.1 and a bose coded PCM cannot be reconfigurted for a non bose car.

Berty - with PCM 3.0 the PCM units or Bose and non-Bose are the same - in the parts catalogue there is no difference so the activation of Bose specific features must be through coding. I will put this to the test once I can get a Mobridge M1000-DA1 to work with PCM 3.0 as I want an optical out from my PCM to feed a digital processor. I have SPP now.
