A 993 engine we recently tested posted 210 to 220 lbs compression. Is this an unusually high number? The leakdown was 2-3%. The engine has had a complete valve job within the last 500 miles.

Not an expert here -- just based on what I've read.

I think that absolute numbers are not what you are after, but deltas between cylinders.

Calibration and other factors can alter the absolute values. Deltas of >??% or so from cylinder

to cylinder are what you should be concerned about.

As an example - we've got a Boxster that is registering ~230#s except for cylinder 5 at 0# (ouch)
