Recently, the red light on my ignition key to 2000 C2 Cab came on, and hasn't yet turned off after 3 days. I searched here and a few other forums. One thought it was static electricity problems. Is it a warning to change the battery? Thx?

Replace the battery. Its a type CR2032.... should be availabe almost anywhere that sells batteries. Or if you want it from Porsche its part # 999 611 108 00.

Is it possible that the little microswitch inside the key is stuck in the "down" or "on" position?

Regards, Maurice.

Unfortunately, after replacing the battery, the LED is still solid red. The microswitch is NOT stuck in the down or on position. When pressing it, one can hear the distinct "clicking" of the switch. Any other advice? Currently I'm physically unlocking the driver side door with the key. Once I'm inside the car, and close the door, I hear the door locks actuate, and a solid red light appears on the door switch in the middle console. I've never experienced that before. I use the switch to lock and unlock the doors, and the red light on the switch turns off. Sounds like I need a new pcb board in the key?

Thank you Loren. I know, I'm due for a membership. :) Unfortunately, my transmitter may fall into the "less than .000001%" of the cases, since a multimeter proves voltage is full on the new battery, yet after replacing it, the LED is still lit.

On my old 986's fob, I had the red light issue. I had tried replacing the battery with a quick swap but the red light stayed on. The solution for me was to take the battery out, let the fob sit for awhile (more than a few minutes, I think I left mine for about an hour while I went and mowed the lawn), then put the batt back in. No more red light after that.

I owned the car for three years, had to do this twice.

I just had the steady-red problem on the key fob for my 1998 986. Did as you suggested, Mark, and now the light is off! thankyou.gif The key, by the way, snaps right open using a jeweler's screwdriver [couldn't find mine, so I used a chisel!] Only difference is that I only disconnected the battery for about a minute. renntech1.gif
