does the parking brake indicator light in the inst. cluster light up when the hand brake is pulled while trying to lower top? if not the switch in the handbrake assy may be bad our out of adjustment

The handbrake switch is no longer part of the system since the top can be activated while driving the car till approx. 50Km/h. (987). I would check the fuses and the relays to start with, normal sized relays on 987 instead of the double relay on 986. A fault code check with a PIWIS or similar diagnostic tool would be able to save you time.

I checked my e3 fuse and it seems to be good I dont see a broken connection thru the fuse window? Do you know where the relay for the top is located? Maybe its just the switch.

I'm only familiar with the location of the convertible top relay on the 986. If it's in the same location on the 987, then you will find it in the relay tray in the driver's side kick panel (to the left of your calf when your left foot is on the clutch pedal).

As RFM says, the 987 is no longer a double relay, but here is a photo of the 986 double relay in the relay tray:

You can just see the top of the "dead pedal" at the bottom right corner, and the top of the fuse tray at the bottom left corner. The convertible top relay (again, this if for the 986) is the one with the black square on the white background.

Thanks for the info but it looks like the 987 has just a fuse so maybe its the switch. I'll see if I can get this covered under the warranty since its a 2007 with only 5032 miles on it.
