Horn or Airbag Proglem

Yesterday I put a 4 spoke steering wheel on my 2000 996. It went on fine and I screwed in the airbag. But the horn is very sensative...sometimes just honks with a turn of the wheel sometimes when Ipush the airbag...just way to quick to honk. Do I just back out the screws a little or is there a larger issue? Thanks

Very common problem. Do a search you will see this comes up once a month. The airbag is rather heavy and over the years the bushings on the airbag retaining frame wear out and weaken, causing the horn on braking and turning. There is a fix for it or replace the frame 993-347-088-01

I had the same problem on my 2000 C2. After I did the search here and read several repair tips , I decided to fix my horn problem by shimming each bushing (4 total) between the retaining frame and the steering wheel with plastic washers (#6 or #8) from Home Depot. The trick is to use four q-tips or tooth picks to hold the washers in place then carefully remove each Q-tip (without disturbing the washer) and insert the mounting screw, repeat this step for each washer. It works as it should be and only costed me less than $1 for the washers. I hope this help and good luck!

This is the best forum. I really appreciate the response for this and other items in the past. It never fails that someone has a solution to the problem. I used the gasket material and it worked perfectly...no parts to order and the car was back in use the next morning. Thanks to all.
