Keyfob replacement

I have really :censored: messed up.

When I purchased my '04 Cayenne it only came with one keyfob. My thought was no big deal, I'll get another.

Well .... I didn't

Somewhere along a 120 mile drive it managed to jump off the dash of my truck and is nowhere to be found :angry:

I have posted a part number request on the part number forum. Was wondering about the best way to handle getting this replaced.

Can I order the keyfob pre-cut (based on my VIN, I assume) then worry about getting the new keyfob programmed at the dealer later?

in my area only the dealer can cut the blade and reprogram the remote.

you can try to talk to a dealer to see if they can cut/program a key blade/remote which you may be able to buy somewhere online for a lower price without the original key

Update .....

Found the keyfob! :clapping: It went between the seats of my truck and wedged itself between the seat support and the hump.

But I'm ordering a spare (maybe 2) just as soon a I hear from Jeff @ Sunset Imports.

FYI: A keyfob cut by VIN will set you back around $150 (from Sunset, pre pay only, no refunds -- you blame 'em?)

Disclaimer: Porsche will cut it by VIN, but if the locks have been changed, they will not have a record of this and your new keyfob will be useless. This is why it is pre-pay, with no refund.

Quick update:

It's at the dealer getting the front differential replaced ....

I asked about getting the uncut key cut and programmed. They can't do it. They only order them cut from Porsche at a cost of around $300 and 1/2 hour of labor to program. They were kind enough to tell me not to waste my time looking for a local locksmith to cut the key. The nearest one they have found is in Atlanta, a 2.5 hour drive. ugh!

I have a 2004 Cayenne S. My key fob stopped working today... as far as opening the doors wirelessly. I replaced the battery and it still doesn't work. Fortunately it still starts the car. I don't want to pay through the nose for a replacement fob or to get the broken one fixed. Where in Tampa, FL can I go to get this taken care of? Please don't say Reeve's... they bother me.

BS. They just want to sell you a new unit for quick profit. Or they don't have the key making machine. I had a blank key blade cut by one dealer while the other said they couldn't

They did offer 'to handle it' for me. :)

I knew where that was going and declined.
