My 03 911 C2 - key on engine off reads 3 bars.

When I start her up it pretty much stays at 5 until the engine temp needle is vertical ( just above 180).

The manual says 3.5 bars at 5k rpm at operating temperature - but that aint happening. It doesn't go that low at 5K rpm.

Is this normal?

What is the viscosity of the oil you are using?

The oil pressure will read higher when the oil is cold, and will also tend to read higher with thicker, higher viscosity, oil.

Key on, engine off mine reads 0.5bar (I think it was at 0 bar when my oil pressure sensor was replaced but now after 2 yrs, it's at 0.5bar). The tech said that's residual pressure, which I really doubt.

At 5krpm engine fully warmed up, pressure should be around 4~5 bars assuming 0w-40.

My car reads zero when the key on and the engine off. I suspect your oil pressure sensor needs replacing.

Engine off: Zero for sure

Engine on: approximately 1 bar for 1000 revs
