Do I have a tail fog light problem?

My car is a 996TT MY2002, LHD, Germany country option. Despite having two tail fog light lamps, both in fine working order, only the left hand side lights up. I've seen plenty of cars that work that way, but they don't even come with a right side fog lamp.

Is this a feature or a problem?

laalves, the driver side fog lamps come on to 'mark' the LEFT side of the car in foggy driving conditions. In Germany under difficult foggy conditions the driver should be in a slowed safe speed in the right hand lane and the LEFT REAR FOG lamp lets anyone approaching from the rear know where the LEFT and RIGHT sides are. All of the 'P' cars come this way at least the older models do. My 98 986 inculded.

Hi, thx for the replies to all. I just thought it strange because all my other previous cars worked that way (left hand light only; regulations in my country also prescribe it that way) but they didn't have a lamp installed. But this car does have the lamp! A bit of a waste...

I have a similar issue with my 986 Boxster in that I have the right hand fog light but need to make the (redundant) left hand fog lamp light up. I've exported my car from the Uk to Europe so need to switch the side of the fog lamp to the opposite side for obvious reason. Does anyone know how to do this I heard you can do it through swapping fuses?

Its a funny old thing, Ive only had my 996tt for 4 years and noticed the other night I only had one rear fog light. I was going to investigate the problem at a later date. Well, thanks.......thats that one sorted. I like that type of defect, there so easy to fix :renntech:

Ha me too. When I first bought my 996tt I went round checking all the lights and noticed only the righthand side lights up. I do have a bulb in the left and it's been bugging me for ages! Even bought some new bulbs!

Now I can tick that problem off my list.

Out of interest is this a legal requirement on the uk to just have one rear fog light? I hate non symmetrical lighting on my car :-). Even though I rarely use my fog lights....
