dirty wheels

Any idea what this might be (see pic) and how to prevent it. right after I wash the car and drive it I have this goop on the wheels. looks like rust and is wost on the front.

It looks like rust. I would try wheel cleaner p21s or equivilent and a brush followed by waxing.

Looks to me like the rust/water that comes out of the cross-drilled brake discs after you wash the car.

I usually take a short drive after washing and then wipe this off before it drys. I use Regex to keep stuff from sticking to the wheels.

Thaks guys. Neighbor has a good technique. After washing he uses the leaf blower to dry the wheels. Going to give that a shot.

+ 1 on the Simple Green. Orient gave me this tip some time ago. A lot of that gunk will rinse off. I like to spray on the Simple Green on the wheels and rotors and let it sit while I wash the rest of the car. Make sure you rinse the wheels and rotors thoroughly with a strong jet of water.

I also have a 4hp vacuum that is a warm air blower as well. It has a very strong blast of air and will get rid of all most all the residual water on the rotors.

Then when I pull it into the garage there are just a few drops to wipe off.

I'm a real freak about clean wheels...

Drying the brakes with a blower is a great idea....there will still be some rust as it occurs instantly with exposure to water and air, but that will reduce it. I would also trust Orient on this as his car is a perfect specimen.

Well I tried simple green and the blower and that worked great. But your wheels are super sharp! Not over done, just the right touch of polish.

Awesome. I'm glad it worked for you. Like Loren said you can also use a product like "Rejex" on your rims. It will help keep the brake and road dirt from sticking. Zaino also has a similar product. Check out their site. They have great stuff!

can you tell me a bit about your wheels. Are they stock wheels and polished? They look great
