I have a 1999 Boxster 2.5L that revs up to 3000 rpms when taken out of gear and then settles back down to idle. When the car starts out it will start out fine (drives and shifts fine). But as you slow down for a stop and press on the clutch to take it out of gear the engine will rev to 3000 rpm and then settle back down to a normal idle. If you leave the car in gear while stopping and wait till the rpms get down to 800 before taking it out of gear it doesn't rev up and it acts normal. Has anyone ever had this problem or have any ideas for a fix for it. I am not good with cars and have most of my work done by a local mechanic but he is somewhat stumped by this problem. I recently had a new ECU put in if that may have anything to do with it. Thanks in advance for any help. This is my first post (and I'm typing it at work in a hurry) so please be forgiving of my poor description.

I would start with cleaning the throttle body and the idle valve, which is located (bolted on) on the side of the throttle body. Do a search on the board and you will find more detailed info.

Speaking of the throttle body, that car should have a cable accelerator. I assume your mechanic checked to make sure cable or or butterfly valve aren't binding sticking a bit...easy to check before you start scrubbing. A loose driver side carpet mat can always throw you for a loop.

If this and the above post don't straighten you up, your probably talking about something "electro", not mechanical which means your unlikely to find it without tethering it to a PS2 (or Durametric)
