I have a 2003 996 in seal grey with a grey top that is in ok condition. No holes just creases, abrasions and creases. Toying with the idea of replacement. saw some tops on the net for about 500+ $ that claim are made from the original material type.

Questions:

Would putting a black top be odd for this color car? i.e. was it an option?

In the Roseville, Sacramento area is there a specialist that anyone might recommend. Oh and any idea on cost?

Recently purchased and enjoying this high mileage car (76000 Miles) but would not mind sprucing up the old girl's look. Tips, experience etc. appreciated, did a search and did not see anything specific..

TIA Greg

Have you tried just using RaggTopp cleaner and sealer. Most of the wrinkles come out with a good cleaning and sitting in the sun. If it still operates and seals OK I wouldn't change it. Black would look great on the car BTW....

Thanks, I used a shampoo that the Porsche dealer sold me. Seemed to clean the dirt really well, but the stains are there and it just looks dingy next to the paint that is in great shape. Would Ragg Topp cleaner give me different results than Porsche wash shampoo?

Cleaner and sealant...the sealant does restore some of the color (shouldn't look as faded). I would try cleaning it again and applying at least two coats of sealant.

You can recolor the top, in black, if you choose. It works well, and it is easy. I did it but cannot remember the brand. I think I did find it in this forum. Will find in garage and post.

Super, I did oder the ragg top kit and will try. Other than that, I would really like to see a new top on this old car. So much rather talk about cab tops than RMSs :P . 'course that will probably jinx me. B)
