My 05 CTT recently had the coolant pipes changed from plastic to the updated aluminum ones. Today after about 5 minutes of driving I smell coolant and the low coolant level warning light comes on. I turn around and park it for the rest of the day. Trying to pinpoint where he leak is coming from, I take off all the plastic housing around the engine bay so I can see around as it warms to operating temperature. As it was running and warming up I smelled very faint signs of coolant, when all of the sudden I hear brief buzzing noise and coolant starts to leak pretty fast out the bottom of the engine bay. I cannot see where it is coming from but my guess would be near the rear of the motor, hard to tell which side but it smelled stronger from the passenger side (right). My guess is the water pump, and when it turned on that was the buzzing noise I heard? It happened about 5 or so minutes during warmup at idle. Any thoughts / suggestions on what this could be are appreciated. Pump should be fairly easy to replace if that's the issue?

A leaking water pump and water tubes still remains possible and the plastic water tubes connectors on the rear of the engine aswell, visible from below with the car on a lift, or with a mirror from above.

You can also check the water pump for brng failure, wiggle the pulley and check for movement. It pump is an easy DIY. How many miles on the vehicle?

Just hit the 60K mark. Doesn't the turbo have an electric water pump (no pulley)? Just getting into it now and have the bottom pan off to get up in there for a closer look.

The water pump is located towards the top part of the engine. It's under the plastic covers between the valve covers and is driven by the serpentine belt.

Thanks for the info / suggestions. Tore things apart and the source is a leaky hose behind the motor. It is the furthest left one of the three that are together extending from under the intake manifold. Need to get a replacement at the dealer or online. Also found some loose fittings that will get fixed. Can anyone share the torque values on the bolts that hold the intake down?

Search the forum for coolant pipes as this was covered in some detail. The coolant pipes are a common source of leaks.

Got it figured out. It was one of the rubber hoses that attaches to the housing which the cooling pipes run into ($14 part). Mine has the upgraded aluminum coolant pipes and was not the source of the leak (fortunately). Part comes tomorrow so hope to have it back together for a run tomorrow. Anyone know what ft-lbs the intake is torqued at?
