loren- there are four connectors on the back of the instrument cluster do you know the part number for the white connector? i have a my00 996 cab and i need to replace the piece that slips over the connector that holds in the wires. i kinda screwed up a obc computer hack and i'm desperately trying to fix my mistake. evidently, i didn't push the wires into the connector properly and i'm not getting a good connection and the 4th stalk isn't changing the computer. the connector cover is so tight i can't slide it off. once i get the new part i'll slice the cover and re-seat the wires to the obc. thanks very much. -steve

Sorry, I don't think Porsche sells the connector - but perhaps one of the OBC gurus knows for sure.

Another option would be to get the part off of a car in a salvage yard.

Steve,

"BROKEN PLUG HARDWARE. For those MY01 – MY04 DIY’ers who have broken the lock on one or more of the instrument cluster plugs or who are afraid they might, here’s the part number you need : PNA 721.04.300.202. This part number gets you a package with the three colored (blue, green, gray) covers/locks and all three black plugs. They only come as a set of three and cost $27.00 (dealer). The blue, white and black covers/locks and plugs are available for MY97 – MY00 Boxsters too. Have your Porsche technician (not parts guy) check his “Porsche Electrical Connector Repair Kit” for the replacement parts or at least a part number for the three plug package. The entire repair kit is known as CARTOOL – Nr 96 0 000 or PNA 721 043 600. It is full of connectors the parts guy would like to sell you the entire wiring harness for."

This paragraph refers to a Boxster DIY, but the connectors are the same for 996's too.

If your dealer is uncooperative try Sunset. You can probably beat the $27.00 MSRP.

When I did mine I bought some connectors from volkswagon and soldered them to the wires on the OBC stalk.

They pushed really easily into the connector without any problems. VW part no 000 979 010
