Was doing some wiring for an ipod and accidentally broke off a little plastic and metal tab on the left side of the radio bracket in centre console. Can anyone tell me what that does? I assumed it was some type of ground so I just put it under a screw on the radio frame, but have not yet finished my ipod job, so don't know yet if something is not working right.

Any help would be great and sorry I should have taken a pic, but didn't.

I think that is the wire for the alarm. If it goes to ground it will sound a single beep when you arm the alarm.

So wiring it to ground was the right thing for me to do, or is that horn beep a sign that my alarm is not activated?

I get a single beep. Would I get a single beep if one of my quarter windows was open? I have a regulator problem that I am in the middle of fixing, so perhaps that is causing my single beep and not the wire on the side of the radio that I broke off? Can anyone tell me if I was correct in wiring the broken tab to ground?

I think if you put the wire to ground it will cause the alarm to sound, it's indicating that the radio has been removed or a aftermarket unit is installed.

Thanks wvicary!

So then I should just leave the wire not connected to anything (perhaps tape if off) and then the alarm will think that all is well, even though I would risk having my radio stolen and the alarm not going off. Alternatively I would have to buy the replacement plastic tab and reconnect the wire.

How about the quarter window? If open will the alarm show a fault?
