Been bleeding it since last night.. had to fill up 4 times already....Thanks!

If you are bleeeding it manually (i.e., without a vacuum tool), you can help the process along by leaving the pressure relief valve in the open position and driving around like that for a few days.

You will find the lever for the pressure relief valve under the thin black plastic cover that surrounds the oil fill cap and the coolant cap. You can pry that cover up with a small flat blade screwdriver.

So I have bleed the car and the Coolant level has stabilized. But the coolant has started to leak again!!!! I am thinking I did not tighten the bolts from the water pump enough. Can anyone tell me how tight they should be??

Another issue is why would it start to leak now and not right after I replaced the water pump? I mean it was fine for 3 days and then the leak started again....

Thanks everyone.

If the waterpump was not evenly torqued it could have loosened and the seal finally gave way. I torque them in a star pattern and go around two or three times. Other than that, I don't know.

without jacking the car up, i see a drip on the lowest portion of the water pump... What could have caused this?

Ultra:

Did you thoroughly clean the mating surface onto which the water pump mounts? Any left over dirt, grunge, cooked and dried coolant, etc., could cause a leak.

+1 on partially torquing the bolts in a "star pattern".

If you do have to remove the water pump again (unfortunately), you will find it much, much easier the second time around.

Did you buy an OEM water pump? If you bought the reman or generic pump, did it come with a gasket?

Is the gasket the OEM metal or paper?

You need to clean a lot of the surface on the engine for the gasket to sit, otherwise it will leak.

Joel,

I went with an aftermarket water pump, the gasket that came with it was paper. Do I have to take everything apart and reinstall with a metal gasket?

Thanks.

The original gasket is $11 (metal)

Since you have to take the pump out again (unless the lek is coming from some hose) I would replace the gasket with the OEM one. Make sure you clean the surfaces really well.
