Hey everyone, I have a 2000 996, C2 (Tip). Yesterday on my way home from work while I was merging onto traffic I decided to give the beast some gas (pretty much full throttle) and the when she decided to downshift from 5th gear it hesititated for a split second, harsh load noise and then vooooom she took off. Is that normal for the downshift to be that hard? Thanks!

I have a 99 Tip 996 and what you describe does not sound totally normal. The car definitely accelarates and you can feel the downshift in the situation you describe but it should not be harsh.

Hi,

I have a 99 996 narrow body C2 Tip car and the car will move out very aggressively when the gas pedal is place to the floor. The Way I would test this is find a nice long freeway entrance ramp and perform one full acceleration using the A (automatic mode) up to say 80+.

Then do one full acceleration on the same ramp using M (manual mode) shifting.

The tiptronic car are smooth in normal driving but can be awaken to a full blown sports car by opening the throttle.

The car should not make unusual noises but it might be making noises you are not used to hearing if you do not drive in the upper power band.

The tiptronic is neat, they even put them on Turbo's now.

HI . I have a MY00 986 Tip. with E-gas and have found that if I'm in manual mode and accidentally shift up and then down twice I get a VERY hard shift.

Where you manually shifting?

I have noticed sometimes in Manual mode (only), I notice when rolling to a stop and shifting from 2nd to 1st I get a Jerk or shudder going in to the lowest gear. The normal method when starting in manual mode, the transmission automatically go's into 1st gear all other subsiquent stops the transmission downs shifts to 2nd when rolling to stop's. Sort of off topic but relivent to tiptronic.

I get exactly the same with mine. I try to always come to a stop before downshifting manually to 1st.

Same with the 986 tip.

Hey guys, I believe I was in (A) mode, but next time which I hope there isn't one, I will pay better attention. I will try to get on the E-way and test it out. Thanks guys!

By the way, what is E-gas?
