One on behalf of a friend with a 996. When we were on a slight hill and he pulled off up the hill in 1st gear I heard a groaning noise coming from the back of the car.

Everything seems fine with the clutch (doesn't appear to have a judder in pulling away) and when I tried it the car felt smooth.

Went back to the hill afterwards and we recreated the noise.

On the hill believe he was on the brake and went straight to the clutch/accelerator - I cannot recall him using the handbrake and getting to biting point before releasing the handbrake...but he may have done ?

Is this a clutch issue ? Noise lasted for about 1-2 seconds as we moved off then disappeared.

TIA.

I have the same issue, hill or no hill. I also experience it at lows revs in second gear, when i have to slow for a light and then it changes. I think it is more prone to the noise when it is cold, but i'm sure i've heard it at temperature as well. As for recent work on the car, i've replaced the waterpump about 5k ago, and that actually imporved idle and gear changes. I've also changed the air filter and oil recently and was starting to wonder if the airbox is not sitting correct or a screw could be loose.

Other than the bite point eing quite high, i have no other issues with changing gear.
