I've been considering replacing the 3.2 in my 03S in the search for more horsepower and have run onto a website for "MotorMeister in the LAX area that advertises exchange 3.4 and 3.6 engines that are 'fresh' out of repair and overhaul. Have any of you ever dealt with these folks, or heard anything about them. A 3.6 for $6,000 exchange is cheaper than a turbo ad-on and probably a much smoother running set up during the 110+ degree summers here in PHX.

Although a 3.6 would be sweet, be sure to look into the complexity and expense of installing it as compared to the relatively less complicated 3.4 install.

Do a search here for threads on the topic as a starting point.

You make a good point and the caution is well worth consideration. My real interest was in seeing if any of our Forum members had any experience with the seller. Not many shops claim to do major or even minor repairs to the M96 engine and "MotorMeister" advertises that they overhaul them.

Hi Lyn,

I've also seen them advertise on eBay and would call or email them asking for a list of what they claim to do when they rebuild, then would compare it to what the factory does. Your local Porsche dealer should be able to help you with that. Something off topic for health reasons I'm considering moving to a warmer dryer climate and have been considering Chandler AZ as a place to live. Have you been there and what do you think of it?

The 911 community has NOTHING but horror stories from those folks..."supposedly" rebuilt, utilizing used parts, poor craftsmanship, problems galore, etc, etc. Knowing the complexities of the M96, there is no way I would trust those clowns with any motor. Go to the Pelican boards and search their name...you'll have enough to read to last you until next year.

You must not read the 986 forum either, as there are horror stories about buying patched up engines off eBay, as well. If you can't trace the engines history, don't waste your money; do it right and call Jake at Flat 6 Innovations.

there's a guy named jake raby that builds up 3.2 motors. and has a good reputation with the spec boxster race guys for making things that work, {and address the known problems with the motors} i believe he or flat 6 innovations can turn your 3.2 into a 3.6 and I'm guessing make it put down 300hp or so at the wheel.

+1 Jake has been famous for years in the 914-4/VW world, and has now added the M96 to his credentials.

And jmatta is right about MM's rep. One 911 engine expert posted that it was the worst 911 engine rebuild he'd ever seen.

3.6 @ 300 RWHP, 3.8 @ 320 RWHP and a gob of torque.. We only reuse the crankcase, crankshaft carrier and crankshaft. ALL other parts are updated or replaced.
