DIJON, France (AP) - Eric Clapton won't be driving in France for a while. Police said they clocked the rock star speeding down a highway at 134 mph and suspended his license.

Radar caught Clapton whizzing down a highway Tuesday in his Porsche 911 Turbo at 53 mph above the speed limit, police said. He was stopped near the town of Merceuil, south of Beaune, near Dijon and some 190 miles east of Paris.

Police confiscated Clapton's British driver's license, suspending his right to drive in France.

Clapton, 59, took the bad news well, agreeing to a photo session with police.

After paying a $922 fine, he then rolled away in his Porsche - this time in the passenger seat with his secretary behind the wheel, police said Thursday.

Clapton can still drive in Britain, but he will have to recover his license through a diplomatic route, police said. A court hearing, at which he need not be present, will determine the time his license is suspended in France.

The French police are getting tougher on British speeders at present. 134mph on a highway was pretty aggressive though even for France.

So what is Clapton's car like?..........anyone know which Turbo?

(and what mods :D )

Yup I'm the lucky guy who now owns it. 2004, 996 Turbo Tiptronic S registered to Eric mid 04 in the UK. Seal grey with metropole blue trim, totally loaded with the X50 engine uprate. Car's like new but has certainly been used. And yes its quick surprised he wasn't going quicker!! :drive:

Sorry about the delay in replying....

Eric's speed is comparatively slow compared to a guy here in the UK who is now serving a 10 week spell in prision and sporting a 3 year ban from driving after being clocked at traveling at 172mph in his company's 997 Turbo by a cop with a radar gun. The cops even took a photo of the read out on the radar gun as they hadn't seen it that high before. He holds the record here for the fastest speeding conviction.

Having said all that, a few years ago the cops in Scotland hiding out on a highland road that was favoured by speeding car owners, had the shock of their life when there gun went off the scale as it picked up a low flying Harrier coming straight towards them. Lucky for them the aircraft was on an excercise and loaded with dummy missile as its defece system on the aircraft locked on to the IR source from the gun - Shame it was only armed with the dummies.

My little Clapton speeding in France story..

I ran with the bulls in Pamplona driving back to Paris on the autoroute near Tours with a friend and two Scottish musicians in my new 1989 Jetta 2 door. We are alone for miles on a tolled highway and hogging the left lane. We were doing the standard 85mph or so... Canary yellow Rolls comes on us..I speed to 108 trying to match it. Wheels shaking off the Jetta at 108 and above. Clapton in the Rolls gently passes probably at 110 mph never looks over. The Scotts say..its Eric Clapton!!  Plates were custom British ERIC 1. Rt hand Rolls. We never caught up..Could have kept up with my Copenhagen bluu 944...just a nice summer in France
