Hi all,

I`ve just joined as I`m at a loss.. sorry for being so rude!

I`ve had my 99 Boxster for about 5 years now, about 2 years ago one of my friends spun & lightly crashed it, & it was then repaired at a friends garage.

Since it was repaired I`ve hardly used it, maybe 700 miles in the last year, I`ve barely used it with the roof raised (mainly because I did the "Boxster chop" too hard & split the rear screen!), but I`ve had an intermitent problem since.

When I`m driving, I go over a bump & the door glass rolls down a few inches, like it thinks I`m opening the roof.

You then cant close the windows without stopping, then opening & closing the roof.

Over time this has been less & less reliabe as a fix, till tonight my brother took it out & it took good 15 minutes to get them to reset, after maybe 15-20 roof down/roof up sessions.

Now I`m guessing this is a microswitch out of alignment somewhere, would anyone know which one?

I have other Boxster related questions I`d like to ask, but this is the primary one thats driving me nuts at the moment! :D

Many thanks (& happy new year!),

Paolo.

Paolo:

It sounds like it's one of the two microswitches that are located in the latch receptacle in the center of the top of the windshield frame.

To test, stick your finger (or a pencil) in there and poke it a few times and see if that has any effect. I'm relatively sure that this is your problem.

One of the two microswitches has thin long soldered connections, and those often end up with a hairline crack that is hard to detect at first.

Take a look at the following thread for a photo of that microswitch and DIY instructions on how to replace/repair it: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ic=10458&hl

Much appreciated Maurice, I`ll let you know how I get on in the next few days.

If it is one of those switches, do I have to take the header rail plastic trims down or is it concentrated round the latches? if the trims need to come off do they just pull down or am I likely to break clips.

Regards

Paolo

It's concentrated around the center cover for the latch. It's pretty straightforward once you look at it.

Keep us updated.
