Only half a day into Cayenne ownership, and loads of issues rearing their head... :o

Misfire under hard acceleration, Headlamps turning off when they feel like it, Tailgate not raising fully, TPMS warnings as well as Oil monitoring warnings...

Sheesh, and this was a 21000 miler from an OPC (Nameless for the moment, out of decency, read on to see my reasoning...)

Now as a Motor trade veteran of over thirty years, and qualified Tech/ MOT tester, and with a little help from Renntech's search function, most issues were diagnosed before I even picked up the phone, and the results, when I did, were pretty spectacular!

The OPC gave me a new Cayenne loaner, collected mine, and ordered parts as required, with the promise to return it, fully repaired, within two days.

Eagerly awaiting tomorrow, the repairs are as follows:

2 complete new headlamp assemblies inc. triggers and bulbs.

8 new coil packs and Cat check to reassure me the misfire hasn't killed it...

New tailgate struts X2

Reset to TPMS system

Replace oil sensor.

£2000 worth by my reckoning, obviously on the house.

Not a good start, but at least a speedy and effective response from the official dealer. I'm convinced this is the way to go, unless you're feeling lucky!

Glad it 's all covered. Too bad your Porsche experience turned out to be a tough one right off the bat. I agree with you... The warranty is the way to go with these cars. Hope you get it back soon and can enjoy it!

the fact that it was allowed to be sold in that state, is weird, as a qualified mechanic myself that worked at dealerships, there was always a stringent quality check and service over everycar before we allowed it to be sold

at least its being rectified straight away

what model year your car is? I thought the ignition coil problem only happens to 2004 and earlier cayennes

Haven't heard much about 2nd gen, but all 1st gen Cayenne's 2003-2006 are plagued with this problem. Not a matter of if, its a matter of when they will fail. My 06 CS had them replaced at 27k and when I checked one it had the same part # (ending in 00) as my 04CS that was built in 03. There are updated coils used now for replacement but it is questionable if they are any better.

Yes, the TSB (16/07 2820 Bar Ignition Modules on V8 engine (16/07) -- dated Jan 22, 2009) on the Ignition coils includes Gen 2 Cayenne.

I don`t know what OPC is, but if dealer, I don`t know any that would have sold it in this condition. As well this should show the value of a PPI as all of these things should have easily been found and the price adjusted accordingly.

Mine was a bit like that when I bought private having paid for an OPC inspection and its more than 2k work trust me!

None of the issues have come back since I changed coil packs, new head light bulbs (not units although they modified mine so that plugs attach to lights not on slider anymore), new battery etc etc.

Then all my wheels cracked thanks to british road surfaces (these were 22" Rufs). Ruf did me a deal on replacements though which was good.

Anyway it will get better.

Hatfield. As I drove the car home from them (I collected from their premises and wired money to owner after a clean bill of health) the engine check light came on when I went to full throttle. You can imagine my horror knowing this was a Ruf modified car and potentially a very expensive problem. Fortunately just the coil packs.

My feeling is that the owner blanked the diagnostics and then the OPC didn't check anything properly. They didn't even check the 2nd key worked, headlights turned off on that same trip I got the checklight, phone module didn't work, interior light didn't work, battery needed replacement etc etc...

Sorry for your problems and the poor dealer PPI. Hopefully it will run like a champ after problems fixed.

I think the quality of the dealerships vary greatly. I had a PPI done a few years back at Paul Miller in NJ and the tech guy was very thorough. He even pointed out the missing core valve of the spare tire - a $1.00 fix - and other potential problems such as worn carden shaft that may need to be replaced in about 1 year, etc... No surprise otherwise, and still crossing my fingers of course.

Nearly 2 months on:

TPMS still not sorted, so I simply switched it off. In fairness, the OPC offered to collect/ deliver and sort it, but it really doesn't bother me, so I'll wait until it goes wrong good and proper...

Now running perfectly, and with no problems.

Whilst horribly thirsty, unless wafted up the Motorway at sensible speeds, it's very fast, smoooth as silk, quiet, comfy and practical!

Quite simply, it's like a Mercedes S Class, Land Rover Discovery and Porsche 911 all rolled into one rather ugly package, as it substantially does each of those vehicles tasks at the same time, even though it uses nearly as much fuel as all three at the same time!

It's certainly showing it's design age in it's slight clunkiness of operation, but remains a competitive all rounder and remarkably good value for money all things considered.

I now have a two year warranty, to compensate with the original issues (Both HID headlamp units, 8 coil packs, TPMS problem, Tailgate struts, PCM unit and discs, Oil sensor, Door catch) and with 6 reliable weeks under his belt, the Cayenne is proving to be a good car so far.

Sometimes, a little patience pays dividends.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. Now the only potential issue is sloshing water noises from the front bulkhead area, presumably the drains blocked??

Good to see that you have sorted out most of the issues.

Reminds me of my initial woes with my 2003 CTT.

Once you sort out all the issues it is a pleasure to drive. I have 110,0000km on mine and is driving smooth and powerful.

Fuel efficiency will always be an issue when one is on the boost, but oh what fun it is. drive1.gif

The warranty will give you piece of mind. I have used it to rectify ALL my non routine maintenance items. thumbup.gif

Use it to sort out the sloshing noises.

There are two drains located in each corner of the front cowling area. I have used a straightened coat hanger to open them up.

No mods, just a boggo Chilli!

It has a few factory goodies though, notably the heated wheel! LOL

Tempted to tweak her, but by gosh, she drinks a bit already!

I'll go downstairs with a coat hangar very soon, Thanks for the tip....
