Replacement Radio For 2003 Boxster

I recently purchased a 2003 Boxster and as they say at McDonalds "I am Loving it" I do have an improvement I would like to make. I have this collection of MP3 files and no way to play them with the original radio. I do not want any DVD player or navigation system, just a radio with MP3 capability. The current audio system is the standard system with speakers on the dash and in the doors but no speakers behind the seats. Any suggestions, ideas, warnings etc. would be appreciated.

Depending on your setup I can offer two suggestions:

1.) If you do not have a CD changer, but do have a CR-22, CDR-22 (BE4467), CR-220 and CDR-220 (not CDR-210) Radios. you can buy an adapter here:

You pull your head unit out and plug this in and then you can play any MP3 player in the AUX mode of your stereo as if it was a CD changer.

2.) You can replace the head unit with a Blaupunkt Brisbane SD player that plays SD disks and actually has the same connections as the factory stereos. Easy install.

The original poster has a MY2003 - which would be a MOST (fiber optic) based system - likely CDR-23.

So he will some wiring to do. He should do a search here for others solutions.

Another option, is to take the mp3's and burn them to CDR's. You don't get as many per disc as you would with mp3's. No wiring changes, cheap. easy.

Thanks for the replies. Loren is correct, I have a CDR-23. I apologize for not mentioning that in my original post. I was hoping for a plug and play solution however if it takes wiring then so be it. The idea of converting MP3 files to CD for around town would be OK but we live in OH and the car was a retirement reward to ourselves and we have a choice of parking it here in Ohio or driving it in Key West. Limited storage for CDs so MP3 player becomes a requirement for the drive south. Any other ideas would be appreciated!

I installed the Dension Gateway 500 in my '03 (CDR-23 MOST system) with an iPod. It is not a perfect solution, because the CDR-23 does not display any track information, but I mounted the iPod on a mount next to the dash, and it works fine. The Dension unit plugs into the MOST fiber loop, pretending to be a cd changer - the quality of the sound is superb (well, as good as you can get with the factory setup). Installation was easy, but it did require a trip to the dealer to "enable" the cd changer.

The downside is that it is not cheap - I bought mine from bumperplugs.

What I thought would be a straight forward operation has turned into a major operation that will be placed on the back burner until we return from our trip south. I think that N41EF's idea of burning CD's, although it wasn't my favorite solution turns out is the best one. Thank you.
