post-33721-1262807834_thumb.jpg I found a huge puddle under my 00 boxster s. I checked the expansion tank under the carpet and its dry. It seems to come frome the passenger side engine front. when I took off the plastic shield there was tons of coolant flowing when I jacked it up from that side. I havent started it in weeks. Any Ideas what that could be I never had to add any but sometimes I could smell it for alittle bit now its empty? It may be dripping from the flange gasket from that hose.

This is an older picture of where the area is.

Thanks Peter

Peter:

If there is no trace of dried coolant anywhere farther up towards the coolant tank, then it is the "Y" hose that has given up the ghost. It is not an uncommon failure point, as it has happened to me twice in about 5 years.

The hose costs about $30 from Sunset, and is an easy DIY. If you have a good pair of hose shutoff pliers, it would make the job easier as you could prevent any more of the coolant from flowing out while you change the hose.

The most difficult part (i.e., time consuming) of the job will be to bleed the coolant system when you refill. If you are going to keep the car for while, I highly recommend investing in a Ulift tool by Uview (or vice versa). Cost is about $100 through Amazon.com and it's the same tool that Porsche sells for about $500, without the Porsche sticker. It will save you a lot of time and get the air out of the system out 100%, with ease.

Do a search here as quite a few have used that tool recently and have been very happy with the results (besides me ;) )

Hi on inspection it looks wet as though its comming from the elbow that is actually the water pump. Literally a river of coolant came out from there while it was not being driven.

Do I definitely need a new pump? Im thinkin I do.

If it's coming from the water pump itself (and not from a hose connected to it), then the seal has given way and the water pump must be replaced.

Not as easy as replacing the Y hose, but definitely doable DIY with decent access through the front bulkhead/engine cover.
