Again just purchased an '01 Boxster with 89K miles. Whenever I purchase a new toy I like to give it the once over whether it needs it or not - I'm just picky that way but has served me well over the past 15 years and 40+ autos. I've had an '83 Porsche 928S but that was different technology. I am accustomed to flushing the motor with an over the counter moter flush available at any parts store before my first oil change. It's a great way to loosen up the sludge, etc. I'd like to know if anyone would discourage a motor flush for the Boxster and why? I flushed my '05 Mercedes when I bought it last year and had great results - german=german? LOL

thanks!

If the correct oil was used by the previous owner you shouldn't need to flush it as synthetic oils have a high detergent level.

Flushing can cause particles to break loose from one place and gum up another, such as small oil passages. As wvicary said, the engine should not need if if it was properly maintained with correct oil and filter changes.

If it wasn't maintained properly, sludge particulates could be waiting for a flush to be transported to do evil in critical passages before it hits the filter.

Which is one reason maintenance records are critical when buying a used car.
