Hi everyone,

Today I replaced my low beams on the left side of my headlamp. I realized while 'wrenching' the headlamp out that the screw was a little lose. I later realized that the plastic headlight plate is cracked open, causing the gears that lock/push-out the headlamps to lose their contact. After replacing my bulb I put my headlamp back in. Usually I will rotate the wrench until it "clicks" and completely locks the headlamp, but this time it didn't. I tried pushing the screw so that the gears will be completely in contact (since the plastic mount bracket is already broken). Once my headlamp is securely locked (not really sure), that part of the bracket broke and fell off with the screw (that is stuck to the wrench) that is used to spin the headlamp lock. So basically, I will not be able to take out my left headlamp anymore.

I've already placed an order on a new set of headlamp mount bracket. My question is now that its pretty much impossible to remove the headlamp, what is the best way to get access to the bolts that hold the mount bracket? Where are the bracket bolts located?

yep, mine broke too. So many inferior plastic parts used in the construction of these cars.. jaysus. i will be interested in how you fix it.

You might be able to release the locking arm for the head light assembly if you remove the fender liner. I have never seen the Cayennes break before but it's very common on the Touareg.

I will pick up the parts on Thursday. Will have my friend who owns a shop do the work this weekend. I've been told as well that it is accessible through the fender line. Will get back and explain the process. Thanks for all the input.

One comment - to help keep from breaking the plastic - make it easier to operate. Spread a dab of grease on the locking bar where it turns up and grabs the headlight. I also put a bit of teflon grease on the slide rails for the headlight.. but that might be unnecessary. The locking bar treatment made it much less effort to have it click into the locked position.

2006 Cayenne Turbo S.  Left front turn signal wasn't working.  Used a RennTech tutorial to remove the assembly, found the bulb was fine, reseated it and signal now works.  However, in the process I appear to have stripped the gear on the mounting plate and can not lock it back in.  Found it available online a few places and will order.  Question: How would you keep the assembly in place to drive the car while waiting for the part? :)

This is for my '05 V6, you got to take off the front bumper cover and wheel lining for the side you're working on.
