99 C2 6spd with just over 39k miles. Noticed small oil drip on the floor on the right side of the car. There was oil leaking from the middle spark plug hole. Removed ignition coil and the tube and oil poured out of the hole. I did not remove the spark plug. (The last time I drove the car I got CEL. After I got home, checked the code and got P1123. The engine seemed to run fine and I saw no smoke from the tail pipe. Left the car for about a month and today I noticed the oil drip on the floor.) Just for comparisment, I remoed the coil and the tube on the cylinder in front of the middle cylinder and everything was bone dry. There seem to be no leaks from any other spark plug hole. I have stopped until I get some advice/suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help. I am in Tampa Bay Florida.

You need to replace the seals on the spark plug tubes, it's an easy fix. Hardest part is getting the tubes out without cracking them. If you hit a auto parts store and pick up a 1 to 1 1/4 rubber expansion plug, you can pop it in and tighten it up until the tube spins and then just pop it out. If you have one tube leaking, chances are you have others too. At 90K I had 3 leaking.

[Hi Rick, and thank you very much for the info. I will go buy the tool and try it Monday evening. I guess I can get the tube from Reeves Porsche in Tampa on Monday after work. Could this have caused my ECL and the code P1123 the last time I drove the car??? I pulled the MAF and cleaned it with CRC MAF cleaner, but did not start the car after reinstalling it because I started on this oil leak. I had planned to lift the car on jacks, take the wheels off and bleed the brakes. Also, I was planning on replacing the coolant, it still has the original coolant from the factory, looks clean, it is at the proper level, and it shows proper protection range on the antifreeze tester, and I know it states "lifetime coolant" but I thought 11 years was too long. My car was built in April 98. I bought it brand new, and use it mostly for road trips, never been tracked. I hope you don't mind, but now that I am starting to "work on it" it is good to know there are people out there who can provide advice.

By the way, I used to have a 87 944Turbo (bought it new and tracked the car until i sold it in 2000). I also have a 87 928S4 my daily driver and a 95 928GTS 5spd that is a garage queen (someday may be a collector's car if I can hang on to it long enough). The wife and I fight over these cars once a week, but we have to fight over something don't we??? I am a 60 year old retired US Navy Captain and I just love to drive fine cars. Thanks again for your help. Steve]

Your oil tubes are likely the old design and need to be replaced along with the o-rings. There was a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on this in 1999.

If you do a search for "oil +tubes" you will find that this problem and solution has been discussed here in detail several times.

[ Thanks Loren. Really appreciate the help and advice.]

I would suggest replacing all 6 tubes and o-rings as long as your car is in the "air".

This might be a good time to replace all the coil packs and plugs if they have not been changed recently.

If you use Reeves, the dealership, to get your parts be sure to ask for a Porsche Club discount. You get a 10% discount if you are a club member.

[ Thanks everybody. The car is on the jacks, the wheels are off. I will order the tubes, o-rings, spark plugs and coils and get all this done. I also plan to change coolant, (I have ordered the Uview55000) and the brake fluid using the ATE super blue. I am trying to find a Motive power bleeder locally (Tampa/Valrico/Brandon) no luck so far, so I guess I'll order one on Monday. The car will be in the air for a while. When this is all done, I'll have to deal with CEL and P1123 code. I read the posts on this, very educational. I have spent a lot of time on the forums in the past few days, AND I HAVE LEARNED A LOT. I have concentrated on enjoying the driving part of Porsches in the past, but now its time to start doing the wrench turning. It should be fun (at least I keep telling myself that).]
