Hi guys,

Merry Christmas All,

I'm wondering if someone can help me. I have a problem with my battery on my 2002 TT. Its now dead, not an ounce of life left in it. This is hindering me getting the front lid open, now I have tried the external 12volt thing within the fuseboard (I've done this a couple of times...) and thats not working? The alarm just seems to be going constently and whatever I try I cannot get the alarm to switch off. Tried the fob, unlocking and looking the doors, ignition all to no avail.

So now I am in the midst of searching for the emergency pull cord. Please bear in mind I have a RHD car with the two catches/switches for the front and rear lids, (dunno if that makes a difference?) I have jacked up the drivers side and removed the dirt guards underneath the wheel arch had a grope about for about 20mins now and still cannot find it. Now then, just a couple of questions

a. Am I at the right side of the car! (I've been assured that I am from another site)

b. If I am at the right side is there a specific place I should be looking at? All I can feel is pipes and the headlight unit, no manual release wire.

Please help my guys, I need to get my baby up and running. :help:

Cheers guys,

Neil

Use a good ground spot, and it should be working. You can also use a charger, or spare battery, if you use the cigarette lighter. I have no experience with RHD emergency cables, could be on the front left side in this case.

I'm getting a good ground cos the alarm is going... Just seems to be nowhere to get your hand in on the turbo's due to pipes etc...

Surely someone must have done this procedure on a turbo at some point? <_<

The battery is located in the front trunk, i cant honesty see a major difference between a Turbo and a Carrera on the front, concernig the emergency cable, turbo, extra pipes and inter-coolers are in the back.

I post that picture just to show you the location of the cable, in the front section, without the front bumper cover.... You should be able to get at it from the right side front plastic lining.(but not sure for rhd). Or, may be, with a small hook just in the corner of the right light assembly????

I have found in the book "Porsche 996 the essential companion" ,which is dedicated to any Porsche 996 : "The emergency release cable that unlocks the luggage compartment lid, runs front the lower part of the lock behind the wheelarch inner liner on the right hand side of the 996"

i just had to do this 2 days ago (1999 C2 Cab)

what i did was... with the front end jacked-up, there are 3 holes bettween the bumper and body look straight up and you will see the cable (shile steel cable) you will be able to us a coat hanger snake it up and pull down. the hood might not pop up but you will hear a click, push down on the hood lightly and it will pop up. it took me 5 min to get it sorted out

good luck, and i hope you have the openings under your bumper

Glad you got in! Not sure if this applies to 2002, but on the new 997 TT there is a manual hood release in the fuse panel door near the driver door hinges under the dash. May check your

owner's manual to verify. May help for next time? Or maybe this is why the new ones have the release! :)
