My 1999 3.4L has a coolant leak from a black box on the engine that is not easily accessible. I can see where the leak is, but can't identify the part. The indy said he may have to pull the engine to get to it. Any thoughts what the black box is? I have a diagram of hoses, but this part is not showing.

I don't appear to have oil/coolant mix, just a coolant leak. Any help would be appreciated. I do not have a picture available at this time.

You really need to post a picture. Model years change stuff but most parts can be figured out. Unless you know what sections of houses are going into and or out. Your answer may be in what the hoses are called that lead to and out of the part.

I can't think of a single coolant baring external component that would require engine removal for replacement. He must be referring to the separator. This is pretty difficult to replace in an automatic with the engine in the car (still the way to go) but not a problem at all in a 6 speed. I'd get a second opinion about yanking the engine.
