Sorry guys but I'm new here and am wondering on the difference between 9PA, 9PA1 / Gen 1, Gen 2...

Is it that

9PA is equal to Gen 1 which = Cayenne up till 2007 and

9PA1 is equal to Gen 2 which = Cayenne starting from 2008 ?

9PA is equal to Gen 1 which = Cayenne through MY2006

9PA1 is equal to Gen 2 which = Cayenne starting from MY2007

So all 2007 Cayennes and up are 9PA1? ok got it.

Next questions...where does the "9PA1" bit come from? is it the chassis number? (I'm travelling otherwise i would have checked my car)

Also to anyones knowledge there are no 07s except for mules

Good point - you could order a MY 06 later than the other models then had to wait for MY08.

So if we consider the the 911 as 996 and 997 etc. And Boxsters as 986 and 987. Is the Cayenne considered a 9PA and 9PA1, or is it considered a 955 and 957? I am just looking for clarification. Thank You

The "official" designation is 9PA and 9PA1.
