2002 996 Cab

I missed a downshift, went from 6th to 2nd doing about 80. The tires chirped and realizing the error I put it into 4th. Car seems fine, any idea how much damage I could have done or any thing to look out for? Car is great, replaced a pass side regulator and a coolant res. Thanks Renntech!

thanks!

Hopefully you will be OK.

Have your DME read, and report back here with the number of ignitions in range #1 and range #2. Due to the missed shift, you added several ignitions into the range #2 numbers. Range #1 are those over-revs caught by the re-limiter. Range #2 are mechanical over-revs caused by things like a missed shift, since the rev-limiter does not protect you on a downshift, only up shifting. You are also not protected when the car is spun, and the engine goes in the reverse direction. That's why it is important to get the clutch in fast, when car is spun.

The dealership will provide these reports and readouts for you when the car is in for scheduled maintenance or your yearly oil change. I have never been charged for these reports, and request them yearly for my car's history.
