I just want to double check a few things here before I finalize the air filter change.

First off I took out the air filter and its holder, in doing so a dried leaf trapped by the filter fell into the bottom of the box. Would it be a good idea to try and get this out and then vacumn?

Second, the filter element appears to be keyed so Im sure I got this right. However, looking down at the filter as it is being inserted into the box I should see the black foam part, not the yellow filter elements correct?

Thanks in advance.

Get it out and vacum the air box - otherwise dirt particles can hit and damage the air flow sensor.

The black foam faces up. You really cannot put it in backwards.

Is there a DIY document for the air filter change? I am about to perform this next weekend. Thanks.

Step 1 - Open the top cover to the engine (it's in the owner's manual)

Step 2 - Open the air filter box (it's on the driver's side near the air intake)

Step 3 - Remove old air filter

Step 4 - Vaccum the empty air filter box

Step 5 - Install new air filter

.... close up

Once you can see your engine, it is no harder than the air filter on a 54 Chevy.

Any advantage to adding a K&N airfilter? Are gains possible is it just in your head?

2-4 HP is possible. This is the cheapest HP you will find on this car.

Better sound is guaranteed.

There is a higher risk of any oiled filter fouling your MAF ($$)

You can clean the oils out of the K&N filter to avoid that problem BUT you do run the risk of more dust flying past the filter, I've done it and havent had an issue with it...also desnorkeled and the car sounds awesome. IMO removing the oil is no different than using those 350+ dollar intake systems cause they dont use oils to trap dirt and are as free flowing as a K&N filter w/o oils.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the K&N filter came un-oiled, but includes a small tube of oil so you could oil it yourself if you so desire. At least so did the one I got for my Ducati:

..and the same for my Eunos:
