Hi, I have a problem with my 3rd brakelight on my 1998 C2 in as much as it is dead. I have checked the actual light fitting/connector/bulbs and they are fine, so it must be the wiring. I could not see an independent fuse for the 3rd brakelight, rear brake lights work ok, so ruled out a blown fuse

There are two wires behind the actual light (one Orange/Black the other Orange/Brown). I am trying to figure out where these wires go to. I assume the two wires go down to the tail light brakelights and feed from there. I have removed both rear light clusters, and it appears that there is an Orange/Black one feeding to each of the rear lights, but there is no Orange/Brown wire (where does that go??). Apologies, i am no vehicle electrician so i do not have any meters etc for testing wiring <_<

I thought about feeding some new wire through, but there is no chance with such a confined space to work in (the aperture where the brake light fits), so my only hope is to try and work out if there is a loose connection in the wiring.

Anbody got any ideas suggestions?

Thanks

Simon

Test the continuity to ground. The Orange brown wire should be ground through the spoiler circuit. Does the spoiler work? - they share the same ground through he spoiler relay.

Does the stop light in the spoiler work?

Hi Loren, thanks for the reply. The spoiler has been removed. When i brought the car, it had a GT3 kit with the rear wing. The brake light I think is the original unit in the fixed panel just above the engine lid. I am not even sure it worked when i brought the car 6 months ago. I only noticed it was not working when i reversed against the garage door and saw no reflection

If the spoiler is removed then there is a chance you have no ground through the spoiler relay.

Try grounding the Orange/Brown side while having someone apply the brakes.

Hi Loren

BANG ON..... just ran a wire from the orange/Brown wire, pressed the brakes and it lit up. You are a godsend :D

One last question, I have nowhere to ground the wire at the brake light housing end, so i will need to do it at the other. Do you know if the other end comes out at the rear light cluster in either sides wiring looms?

Thanks again for your advice

Any solid brown wire should do.

Thanks Loren

Now sorted and works fine. Thank you very much for the advice :D
