Hi

I lost an adjustment knob on the passenger power seat control. It is the knob that moves the seat backwards and forwards.

The switch itself still works fine, back and forth as well as moving the seat up and down. I can actuate it by pressing on the little nipples that the knob is normally attached to.

The dealer tells me I must buy the whole seat control assembly ($600 or so). Does anyone know if I can just buy the knob (and possibly the little clips that attach it to the switch)?

Thanks for any information you can give me

Please state the exact model and year of your car.

I've done this fix myself. I brought the part off of Ebay (what luck!) -- but as Loren says get the right model number since there is some variation.

You can remove the fascia for the switches and remove the switch from the back and replace. Or alternatively, *gently* pry off the new switch cover and press on to the old switch. I did the switch replacement too because I wasn't convinced that all the little parts were perfect.

Sorry, I thought my car information was included.

2001 996 Coupe

So I gather it might be possible to buy just the knob and not the whole power seat control assembly???

For that model year Porsche only sells the whole switch assembly.

If you do not want to pay ~$455 for a new switch assembly try a salvage yard or eBay.

i have some old seats from a 2000 996 cab with trashed leather that i am about to dump. you can have them for nothing if you want (or any bits from them). they are in california. not sure where you are

I'm not looking for any parts, but i read this while i was browsing the forum. I just wanted to say this is a really generous offer and you don't come across this kind of generosity very often. Very well done, afletche.

A great porsche site, with great members.

Happy Holidays to all :renntech:

Reviving this thread.

This problem of finding a knob-only for the forward-aft adjustment of the seat bottom persists.

Has anyone found a source for the knob ONLY?  The price for a complete switch assembly for $100 is not realistic -- and the dealer's price of $600 is ridiculous.

Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem, searching for this special knob... since 3 months checking ebay and all other sources as DC Autos, Pelican etc. in US and Europe... no chance to get it. Any other suggestions to get an original part?

As a desperate action, I'm going to make a "copy" in a 3D printer shop of the knob.... let's see if it works. keep you updated

Big bump on this thread.  Is anyone still searching for the passenger door knob?  I may have found a source for them.

I will report back once mine is received and I have had a chance to inspect it.
