Oil Change

My 2008 C2S has 9000 miles on it and is a year old, the annual maintenance countdown has started, I see it everytime I put the key in. The maintenance book says change the oil at 20K miles, the dealer says do it now. Any thoughts?

I am in my second + year with my 2007 boxster. I was told by the dealer originally to change the oil after a year or 20k miles - this seems consistent with all the reading I have done. I have only driven 7k miles each year. Dealer advised a one year service including oil change for $435. However there is no "one year service" listed anywhere. Then they told me I do not yet need the 2 year service since I have only 14k miles and do not track it even though the car is 27 mos old. Drives me crazy trying to figure out what should be done when.

I change my oil yearly. This is right at about 7,500-8,500 miles for me. I would never go over 1 year without an oil change or over 8,500 miles. Oil is cheap insurance.

What do you people pay for oil changes from a dealer?

My local Porsche-Audi dealer charges $195. and I'm not sure

what they actually do, if anything, beyond oil/filter. My wife's Lexus

dealer checks brakes, tire wear and all fluid levels for less

than half the price of Porsche. They both wash the cars.

I doMy own. The eight plus quarts runs

you over $50.00 for oil. I buy the filter

from sunset for $15 plus or minus. I wash my

car for $4.00.

With labor at $100 per hour, there does not

look like there is much profit. I would say

that $200 at the dealer is a good price.
