hi folks,

I own a '04 CTT with 35K miles on it.

last week I was driving fast and the "check coolant level" warning came on. I filled the coolant tank with purified water till max. sign, and drove away. 2 days after, I drove the car for nearly two hours in normal driving conditions, came back home and wanted to check the coolant level and it was again below the min. sign.

Anyway, I filled it again and yesterday I went to the Porsche service. they lifted and checked the car again and again, but there wasn't any leak. btw; coolant was low again. They filled it and told me to check it regularly; and note how much coolant it loses everyday. They said that maybe it is about the air which was stuck in the coolant tank, and after couple of fills it should be normal again.

I said ok and left the service, drove the car whole day today, left the car to chill for 3 hours, popped the hood and coolant low again..

If it's not that crappy plastic pipes, and as if it doesn't seem like a leak, where the hell this water goes ?

It sounds like the pipes under the intake manifold. The coolant gathers between the "V" of the cylinders and takes awhile before it starts to show on the ground unless you have a massive failure of the coolant pipes.

Sounds like the plastic T-pipe underneath the motor. No worries though, Porsche usually covers this part. Otherwise it will be updated as they do the work at a wopping.......wait for it.......2000 buh :o . I just recently had the same faliure.

Also could be the water pump...just happened to me 0n my "04. Same thing, coolant loss, no puddle but eventually smell of hot antifreeze.

we figured out..

it was the coolant tank, they have replaced it and now it runs fine. There was a huge leak in the old coolant tank. Thank god I didn't have to change the pipes..

Interesting thread. Have a similar issue with my '07. Coolant was low soon after delivery on the car but temp never above 175, regardless of the ambient temp. Added distilled water to halfway between max hot / min cold levels. Checked again week or so later level was low again but never much below the min cold mark. Took it the dealer a week or so ago, had 'em pressure check tank and cap. No leaks. They filled it up and so far the level hasn't gone down. Go figure. Maybe air in the system. Will continue to check, per dealer recommendation, and going back to dealer for other warranty work and will have them re-check system. These tanks have always been a weak link in the cooling system in all the water cooled modern, 986 & 996 and newer, cars. After 10 years they still haven't solved the plastic tank and plastic cap issues completely.
