My 06 Turbo S just went out of warranty (54k on ondometer). I'm wondering if it makes sense to buy an aftermarket extended warrranty and if so who has had a good experience with them ?

I'm affraid I will get cheated, and I know how expensive these cars are to repair!

Thanks

Put $4k in the bank (basically the cost of the warranty) and pay for it yourself. I have had one since 49K and am near 100K and the warranty covered nothing at all. Coolant pipes, NO, blown AirStrut ,NO

I would be in profit had I not paid for the waranty. These cars are pretty solid and so long as your not racing you should be fine

Mudman,

Regarding the warranty that didn't cover your defects, was it a Porsche factory extended warranty or was it a third party warranty?

Try to get a Porsche extended warranty. If not these guys have a good reputation.

Just make sure you read all the fine print to make sure the coverage is what you want.

I disagree with the "$4000 in the bank" theory. If you have a major powertrain failure $4k wont even make a dent in the cost.

Having had a P car that blew up I would never have another one without a warranty.

Just my opinion...

I think extended warranties are subjective and depends one whether you pay up front now or later... I was quoted about $5500 for a Porsche extended warranty that was only a 3 yr 36000 mile, which I opted out of. I'm at a year past and 76k and so far I've spent $1500 for a valve cover gasket job and an exhaust recirc valve.

You roll the dice either way... You WILL spend a good amount for repairs but I figure if Porsche charges $5500, they expect to pay half that for actual repairs and profit the rest. I'm sure they did the research, so I'm betting with the house and risk paying more later rather than up front.

Mudman2, I'm curious as to why your coolant pipes weren't covered?

My warranty is a third party one, could not get one from P to 100K from new

coolant pipes are interpreted as hoses, therefore wear and tear. Same with strut, suspension component etc etc

I think the odds are in your favor with a Cayenne on transmission (asian) and the engine (tank)

You will spend the money but your choice who to pay

Guess I'm going to go it alone without a warranty. Hope nothing major happens.

Porsche dealer wanted 6,500 for a 3 year to 87k.
