2002 C4S Standard

Curious, who has installed a short shifter in a 996 2002 C4S 6speed standard and which one would you recommend and does anyone have photos of their finished install? I know some are taller/shorter etc.

Thanks in adavance

A good number of folks like the B&M Short Shifter. I have one on my car.

The B&M is neither taller or shorter than the standard shifter.

Does the leather housing still cover the B&M shifter just like the stock?

Is there a particular B & M model#?

Thanks for a great site Loren.

Yes, the B&M is the oem manufacturer, so the only difference is the shortness of the throw. I also have one for 5 years now... You can search for DIY install as well.

I put the OEM 997 short shifter in my Boxster, which uses the same shifter as your 996. The 997 short shifter is not the same as a rebranded B&M, and is not notchy like so many have described the B&M. It comes with the complete shifter housing, and because it's made by Porsche is not inexpensive. They are sometimes on sale, and with the holidays coming up, some dealers might have specials. I installed a Schnell in my 02 996 about a year ago an love it. Its a high quality peice with stock height and appearance.

I had a B&M but found it very notchy so I switched to a 997 shifter and I like it better but I think it is hard to tell if it is really "shorter" than the stock 996 shifter.

i used the B&M short shifter that attaches to the transmission end few yrs ago- no issues- i like it-- shortens throw and keeps stock shifter mechanism so throw is smooth. it was very cheap but don't think it's sold any longer as i've not seen

it advertised.

The ability to misalign the shifter cables and the adjustment set screw on the shifter itself during install IMO is pretty high, which why I think some folks says it notchy, while others like me think its perfect. JMHO
