At the risk of starting a huge debate, I would like to ascertain what brand/type of tyres you are running on your 997.1.

I have Michelins on at present, down under the replacement rears at about AUD$1000 a pop (or about US$920 :D ). Alternatively I can get Yokohama Avans for AUD$500 each.

Any suggestions on types to avoid and ones we love.

Regards

Chris

I have tried a bunch of different tires. Pirelli Pzero Rosso's are garbage!!! I would have to say the best summer tires are the Michelin Pilot Sport Ps2. I have them on my car but they are also the most expensive. go to Tirerack.com to see all reviews on tires. They agree with me. I have Michelin Pilot Sport All season plus tires on my c2 right now and they have been nothing short of fantastic. Also mcuh less expensive than the ps2's. The Pirelli's just take forever to heat up to get grip and wear way too fast!!! My P zero's also had a sidewall bubble from stress. Never again would I purchase a pirelli tire. Do yourself a favor and get either the Michelin PS2 or Michelin AS plus tire. You won't regret it. They also wear better and last longer than some other comparable tires. Also your tires shouldn't cost anywhere near $920 a pop. More like $900 a pair. Do yourself a favor and go to www.tirerack.com to compare tires. You will see the PS2's are one of the best tires...and so is the Pilot Sport AS plus. i also believe they can ship the tires anywhere in the world for you.

Might be cheaper for you to buy tires in the States and have 'em shipped to you. As for tires. I have the PS2's on mine and have been happy with them. Great grip on dry or wet pavement and quite on most road surfaces. The new Bridgestone Potenza RE =11 gets good reviews. They run $ 1160 US for a set of 4 - 19". 18" would be even less. Another tire that gets good reviews is the Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 and you can get a set of 4 of them for under $ 800 US. As beauar suggests, go to tirerack.com and check 'em out. Discounttiredirect.com is another source for brand name tires. Don't know if either ships international or what kind of fees you pay when importing stuff like this but it's worth looking into.

Thanks - I have sent them an email asking for international shipping info. You guys in the US have access to very cheap 911, tires and fuel!

I think it all has to do with the type of roads you have in your area and the weather... I had Pirelli P-zero's on my car and they weren't performing so well (even though I've heard that Michelin PS and Pirelli Pzero's are some of the best Tires for Porsches). Anyways I visited my local dealer and it turns out that for the roads in my country (Lebanon) the Continentals CS3 are the best and so that's what I purchased and haven't been happier.

I suggest you find out what Tires most Porsche owners are using in Australia...

From what I gathered from this post, the Michelin PS2 are the best? I Just got a quote for my C2S (235 front, 295 rear). around $1600 for a set of PS2's . Is this fair price? I've had similar tyres on my car since I bought it and they've been very reliable. I live in a very worm place during summer (50c almost) and I'm thinking of tracking the car one or two times a year. I would appreciate your advice on alternatives if any

I have used PZeroRosso (original), PS2 and now have a pair of Hankook's on the rear. I got about 15k miles out of the Pirellis and the same out of the rear PS2s, but the front PS2 look like they're good for another 10k or so. So far (about 1000 miles) the Hankooks are just fine for street driving, great in the wet and do better on a cold day than either of the prior tires.

I use Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires (on 18 inch wheels) and they've been fine. About to start their third season and I hope they make it to the end, which would be outstanding wear (and over 20k miles!).

I used up a set of Toyo TA1 street tires on the track (bought them to get the wheels they were on) and then used Nitto NT01s for track. Next season I'm going to try 19 inch wheels which will probably move me to the Toyo R888 - which many track rats disparage but I'm game to give them a try. If I don't like them, I'll have to figure out how to get a wider track tire than Nitto's 275/18 at a reasonable cost.

If I had just street tires I might stay with the PS2, although so far I'm really liking the Hankook Ventus V12. Given my track use, I don't drive too aggressively on the street so I can use a "lesser" tire.

I run on PS2 and like em.

From other forums folks say Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 are ok, from cheap side - Nitto Invo is so-so and Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 should be a bit better.
