Changing to another brand of pads? Thinking AKEBONO ceramic.

I need to replace the front brake pads on my 2003 Boxster S. I am considering Akebono ceramic pads. Porsche pads seem really dusty. Has anyone have input regarding Akebono pads? If I switch to another brand and type on the front, should I change the rears as well?

I have an 03 Boxster S as well, recently purchased the Hawk Performance HB290F.583 (rear) and HB550.634 (front) pads. Mine's a daily driver plus about 7 track events per year. I have not put them on my Boxster yet, but did put a set on my Infiniti G35, and really like the performance. Low dust, no noise, good performance. But won't test them on the track until next spring.

I've never had ceramic but they might be a bit extreme for everyday driving.

I installed Akebono Ceramic Pads on my wife's Mercedes SUV. No question, they are much less dusty than her OEM pads. I think any ceramic pads would be less dusty. They seem rotor friendly, and they are not noisy at all. However, I am not sure the ceramic compound meets the performance requirements of a Boxster, particularly if you drive it hard.

Incidentally, we used to live near Springfield, KY. where Akebono had a plant that manufactured these pads

(They have since closed down, given the economy). I can vouch for the excellent quality of materials, workmanship, and quality control that goes into Akebono products
