I tried that already -- that's what I meant by the accessory battery into the fuse box. It just doesn't work for me. It has in the past -- no issues previously. But, for whatever reason it does not currently work. I have pulled out the red item with the copper contact, but despite hooking a battery to it as you describe, the trunk does not open when I pull the trunk release switch.

My only chance at this point is to get this emergency release cable to work. Any ideas on how much to pull on the emergency cable for it to release the trunk?

The only way I can imagine that it would not work is there may be a fuse bad or your trunk release solenoid failed. Before you close up your wheel well put in a good battery and make sure the system works.

I imagine you just give the cable a good yank.

I finally got it.

I read other posts regarding the alarm system locking things up if the battery dies while the alarm is set. My initial attempts to charge the battery via a cigarette lighter socket charger failed. Suggestions like putting key in door key hole such that the car would recognize it didn't work. I removed a few fuses and for whatever reason, I was able to charge the battery sufficiently to get the trunk switch to work.

I was then able to fully charge the battery directly once I gained access to the trunk.

Not sure what went wrong, but for now I'm back on the road...
