Hey guys. I need your help with my ignition switch. I have a 2001 996TT, searched this forum regarding ignition switch replacement. I was able to acquire the same exact switch and replaced it myself.

After installing the new switch and connecting the battery cables, I insert the key and will not turn. Seems like it's stuck in "0" position and will not turn at all.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Try unloading the steering wheel by moving it slightly back and forth. If that doesn't work then I think you must have installed the switch incorrectly.

Check out Mike Focke's web site, it's got a nice directional diagram which might help you figure out if you have installed the switch wrong: http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/mikespor...boxsterwebpages

It covers a Boxster, but it should be the exact same switch and procedure.

Hopefully you won't need the complete mechanical part, which has also been written up here but is more expensive and a more involved DIY.

You could also do a search here as the electrical portion has been written up with photos.

One last option is to post a photo of your newly installed switch and we could look at it. The collective brain trust here will spot it. :drive:

Regards, Maurice.
