Nosing around tongiht on Porsche's website for tech info, I found the link for the PET online, which led me to a link for the PIWIS tech info site. I was able to sign up for an account successfully, and put my VIN in. Looking around, I was able to see workshop manual links, and, had I put money into my account, I could have downloaded the documents for $1.80 US each.

However, the amount of material didn't seem right. There was a lot of interesting stuff out there, don't get me wrong, but I've always heard that the WS manuals were thousands of bucks, and thousands of pages. But, on the website, under "engine" it wasn't that in-depth. Maybe 40 or 50 links. Same for just about all of the other groups.

Is this stuff on Porsche's website actually the WS manuals, or is it "some" of the manual pages for the most common things you'd want to do?

Very interesting either way.

Thanks!

They only show you the general sections for free.

The content is the real manuals - but, at $1.80 per section and several thousand sections per manual I would not recommend buying a manual this way.

Ok, for quick needs/got to haves but not realistic for a manual set.

BTW... TSBs are there too (by make, model and year) - but they are $1.80 each and again their can be several hundred for your car. Also, you don't know the reliance until after you buy and download it.

Personally I preferred when they sold this information on CD - at least it was gathered into a logical form.

If they would sell downloads like that I would sign up in a minute.

For Boxster on line workshop manuals go to

Link removed.

Works for me !

As I have posted here before those manuals are not legal copies and they are woefully out of date. Not to mention they only have a few of the 99 updates for the 9x6 series manuals.

Please re-read the board Guidelines/Rules here about posting links to copyrighted materials that are not your own.

Your link has been removed.

Isn't that wierd, more space devoted to changing a lightbulb than tearing the engine down. Truth is though, I rebuilt a 928 v8 once and all I needed was the torque specs and a knowledgeable guy for advice (who also happened to be selling me parts.

I'm doing a motor right now with a 20 page manual and 2 pages of torque specs.

Very interesting indeed, PK
